Was ist das If-Sätze?
If-Sätze (conditional sentences) beschreiben eine Bedingung und ihre Folge: „Wenn … , dann …“. Es gibt drei Haupttypen — je nachdem, wie wahrscheinlich die Bedingung ist. Der Satzteil mit if ist die Bedingung; der andere Teil ist die Folge. Beide Reihenfolgen sind möglich (mit oder ohne Komma).
Die wichtigsten Regeln
- Typ I (real / möglich): if + Simple Present, Hauptsatz will + Infinitiv — „If it rains, we will stay at home.“
- Typ II (unwahrscheinlich / hypothetisch): if + Simple Past, Hauptsatz would + Infinitiv — „If I had more time, I would help you.“
- Typ III (unmöglich / Vergangenheit): if + Past Perfect, Hauptsatz would have + 3. Verbform — „If she had studied, she would have passed.“
- Bei allgemeingültigen Aussagen (Typ 0) stehen beide Teile im Simple Present: „If you heat ice, it melts.“

- Typ I: If we hurry, we will catch the train.
- Typ II: If I were you, I would apologise.
- Typ III: If they had left earlier, they would not have missed the flight.
