Exercise A

Reading: Management Approaches

Read about three major management philosophies.

Three Management Approaches

Theory X assumes employees dislike work and need strict supervision. Managers using this approach make decisions alone, monitor closely, and use rewards and punishments to motivate. This works in structured environments but can reduce creativity and employee satisfaction.

Theory Y assumes employees enjoy work and are self-motivated. Managers using this approach involve employees in decisions, provide autonomy, and trust workers to do quality work. This approach often increases engagement and innovation.

Management by Walking Around (MBWA) means managers spend time observing and talking to employees in their work areas. Managers listen to concerns, understand challenges, and stay connected to daily operations. This builds relationships and improves communication.
