Was ist das Passiv?
Das Passiv (passive voice) benutzt man, wenn die Handlung wichtiger ist als die handelnde Person — oder wenn man gar nicht weiß, wer etwas getan hat. Statt „Shakespeare wrote the play“ (Aktiv) sagt man dann „The play was written by Shakespeare“ (Passiv). Wer die Handlung ausführt, steht — wenn überhaupt — mit by am Satzende.
Die wichtigsten Regeln
- Bildung: eine Form von be + das past participle (3. Verbform).
- Simple Present: is / are + 3. Verbform — „English is spoken here.“
- Simple Past: was / were + 3. Verbform — „The castle was built in 1500.“
- Present Perfect: has / have been + 3. Verbform — „The report has been published.“
- Past Perfect: had been + 3. Verbform — „The letter had been sent.“
- Zukunft: will be + 3. Verbform — „The bridge will be built.“
- Nach Modalverben: modal + be + 3. Verbform — „It can be solved.“
Beispiele
- Aktiv: Somebody cleans the office every day. → Passiv: The office is cleaned every day.
- Aktiv: They built the bridge in 1930. → Passiv: The bridge was built in 1930.
- Aktiv: Scientists have discovered a new planet. → Passiv: A new planet has been discovered.
