About these exercises

These are free interactive English exercises for students at German secondary schools, from Year 7 to Year 10, at both Gymnasium and Oberschule. They follow the German school curriculum, and they are written by an English teacher and used in real classrooms. Each year has its own page with exercises on that year's topics: in Year 8, for example, the USA; in Year 10, Scotland, Canada and the Commonwealth.

Most exercises combine reading, vocabulary and grammar, and many end with a short writing task. You see straight away what is right and what to look at again, and at the end you get a grade (Note 1–5). There is no sign-up and no app: the exercises work in any browser, on a phone or a computer.

For exams there are full MSA practice units (listening, reading and writing) and Abitur packs for text analysis, argumentative writing, summaries and mediation. Not sure where to start? The level test takes about six minutes and suggests exercises at your level. There are also grammar topics explained in German, and exercises for University, Business and IT English.
