Exercise A

Listening: School Talent Show

You will hear each recording twice, just like in the real MSA exam. Listen carefully, then answer the questions below — you won't be able to play a recording more than twice.

Part 1 — Announcement
Part 1 — Comprehension Questions

1 When will the talent show take place?

2 Where will the show be held?

3 How can students sign up to perform?

4 How long can each act last?

5 What will the money from ticket sales be used for?

Part 2 — Dialogue: Choosing an Act
Part 2 — Comprehension Questions

6 What does Sophie want to do in the show?

7 Why is Daniel unsure about performing alone?

8 What do they finally decide to do?

Exercise B

Reading: Acts & Rules

Read the texts below, then answer the questions — just like Reading Parts 1 and 2 in the real MSA exam.

Part 1 — Match the Student to the Act

The band slot: For groups of musicians who play instruments together and want to fill the stage with live sound.

The comedy slot: For students who love making people laugh with jokes, funny stories, or a short comedy sketch.

The dance slot: For solo dancers or dance crews who want to show off their moves to their favourite music.

The magic slot: For students who can amaze the audience with card tricks, illusions, and clever surprises.

1 Karim and three friends all play instruments and rehearse together every week. They should choose .

2 Nadia has learned some amazing card tricks and loves surprising people. She should choose .

3 Ben is always making his classmates laugh with his funny stories. He should choose .

4 Priya and her crew have made up a routine to their favourite pop song. They should choose .

Part 2 — Talent Show Rules: True or False?

📝 You must sign up by Friday 14 March. No acts can be added after that date.

👥 You can perform on your own or in a group, but each student may only appear in one act.

🎵 If you need backing music, bring it on a USB stick and give it to Mr Berg before the show.

👏 The winner is chosen by the audience, who vote at the end of the evening.

5 You can still add an act after 14 March.

6 A student is allowed to appear in only one act.

7 Backing music should be given to Mr Berg before the show.

8 The teachers alone decide who wins.

Exercise C

Writing: Reply on the School Blog

Read the blog post below, then write a reply of about 80–120 words, just like a blog reply in the real MSA exam. This section is graded by your teacher, not automatically.

On the school blog

💬 Jamie writes: "Our talent show is coming up and I would love to take part, but I am really nervous about getting up on stage in front of the whole school. Part of me thinks I should just watch from the audience instead. Has anyone else felt like this? Should I go for it, and how do you deal with nerves? Please reply below!"
