🦊 The Red Fox
Britain is home to many wild animals, but the red fox is one of the most well-known. Foxes live in both the city and the countryside. They have bright red or orange fur, a bushy tail, and long legs. Their big ears help them hear sounds from far away.
Foxes are nocturnal, which means they are most active at night. A group of foxes is called a skulk. Baby foxes are called cubs and are born in spring.
🦔 The Hedgehog
The hedgehog is a small mammal covered in about 5,000 sharp spines. When a hedgehog feels afraid, it rolls up into a tight ball to protect itself. Like foxes, hedgehogs are also nocturnal. They eat insects, small snakes, frogs, and even eggs.
In winter, hedgehogs hibernate — they sleep deeply from November until March or April. During this time they do not eat or drink. Today, hedgehogs are in danger because their habitats are disappearing.
